Of course we love it when you can come try the horses yourself! The majority of our clients come to France to try horses. Purchasing a horse can be a big decision and it’s important to feel comfortable throughout the whole process. If you do decide to come to France we help organize a horse tour with the horses you have selected to try and any others that fit the bill.

The process can take up to 3 weeks to sometimes a month or more. Depending on timing with shipping and if we have other horses taking the flight as well. We start off by making an offer on the horse, followed by any negotiations needed. Then we will test for Piroplasmosis, which is a tick born disease that horses MUST test negative for in order to enter The United States. After the horse is cleared as negative we use one our trusted vets who understands American vettings to conduct the PPE. After the PPE we send all necessary documents to the buyer (lameness test videos, x rays, report, etc.). If everything looks good we move on to scheduling the shipping. Contracts in French and English will be sent out to sign. We will also send all details on how to send the payment for the horse as well as how to pay us our commission. You will need to take this information to your bank. We also recommend checking out wise.com to send international wire transfers. Once payment is sent and shipping organized, the horse will ship from Amsterdam. The shipper and quarantine agent will contact you directly for payment of these two steps. All horses will quarantine for 3 days at the USDA port of entry (JFK, Miami, CHI, or LAX) and if the horses is a mare or stallion, will then be shipped for CEM quarantine at the chosen facility. Finally it is time for your horse to arrive at your barn! We are communicative throughout this entire process and make sure the horse arrives safely.

Yes, clients can absolutely buy off video. Because you are buying a horse sight unseen we will make sure that the process is clear and you are comfortable with what you are getting. Therefore, we make many different videos of the horse. For example: getting tacked up, being led, in the paddock, walking into a trailer, we even had a guy stand on his horse and shake around a jacket once! It is really our number one priority to make sure our clients are comfortable and informed during the buying process.

French Horse Exports takes care of the entire process from finding your perfect mount to delivering it safely to your barn. We will ask you what x rays you want to do for the vetting, but we take care of organizing everything. The x rays, lameness test videos, and translated vet report will be sent directly to you for you and your vet to review them.

We only list a limited amount of horses on our website. If you do not see what you are looking for, we are happy to share our full sale list via email. It is a Google Drive link that is updated weekly. We also ask clients to send us a message if they do not see what they are looking for. Then we can narrow down some horses for them or put out feelers to breeders and riders in France to find the client’s unicorn.
